What the Community Council does
The Community Council is the lowest tier of local democracy. It is non-party political but enjoys a close working relationship with its three elected representatives on Fife Council. It meets on the last Tuesday of each month apart from in July and December. The meetings are open to everyone who lives in Saline and Steelend, and anyone can speak or raise issues. Its purpose is to monitor everything that is going on in the villages and where appropriate interact with Fife Council and other authorities. From time-to-time representatives of developers and other organisations undertaking community engagement exercises attend meetings to report on their projects.
Details of the current Community Councillors, the Constitution, document archive, recent agendas and meeting notes and the date and time of the next meeting can be found here.
The Community Council has ‘ownership’ of the Community Action Plan prepared in 2011. It identifies the strategies and actions required to achieve physical, social, economic and environmental sustainability. Almost half the households in the area contributed to its preparation. It was updated in 2020 and brought into line with the Scottish Government’s place-making agenda. It is the document against which any actions and initiatives are assessed. More recently Saline and Steelend has been recognised as an ‘isolated, rural community’. It is included in Fife Council’s ‘living well locally’ initiative that promotes the ‘20 minute neighbourhood’ approach to providing services. Include information about who you are, what to do and how to get involved
